The Blood of Dawnwalker characters and factions
A spoiler-light guide to Coen, Brencis, Coen's family, the vrakhiri court and the people caught inside Vale Sangora.

The two essential characters are Coen, the playable Dawnwalker, and Knyaz Brencis, the vampire ruler who imprisons Coen’s family. Around them sit three broad groups: Coen’s family, Brencis’s vrakhiri court and the rulers, rebels and survivors of Vale Sangora. Their availability can change with time, allegiance, violence and inaction.
Coen
Coen is a young man from Laslea and the fixed protagonist; there is no official character creator or alternate lead. After the opening crisis he becomes a Dawnwalker, human by day and vampire by night. Sunlight does not kill him, and runes carved by the herbalist Anca allow him to use witchcraft while human.
His goal begins with saving his captured parents and siblings, but the player determines what he prioritises along the way: family, revenge, alliances, ancient mysteries or vampire power. Coen is therefore an authored character with a defined family and past, not a blank avatar, while still allowing substantial behavioural choice.
Knyaz Brencis and the vrakhiri
Brencis leads the vampire clique ruling Vale Sangora and is Coen’s sire. His regime halted plague and displaced failing human authority, then institutionalised the extraction of blood through the Blood Mass. “Knyaz” marks him as a ruler, not merely the strongest monster in a cave.
The vrakhiri are the vampires behind this new order. Official material presents a court with lieutenants, territories and competing interests. Coen can undermine parts of that network before confronting Brencis, but the time system prevents one run from automatically resolving every strand.
Coen’s family and Laslea
The opening revolves around Coen’s mother, father, younger siblings and a village trapped before its Blood Mass. His mother’s inability to attend forces the first set of timed decisions. After the attack on Laslea, the surviving family becomes the sacrifice planned for Brencis’s coronation in 30 days.
The family is more than a quest marker. It gives the clock a concrete cost and creates tension between a direct rescue and the people Coen might help while preparing. The official PlayStation account also stresses that family members have their own grief, fear and decisions; Coen cannot control every outcome through a hidden perfect dialogue path.
Other people in the conflict
The publisher describes the cast as rulers, rebels and survivors. Some held power before the takeover, some were pulled into it by circumstance, and each can serve the vampires, resist or try to remain outside the struggle. Confirmed opening figures include Anca, the herbalist connected to Coen’s runic magic, while the wider cast is introduced through quests and the vampire court.
This guide intentionally avoids turning a launch-day cast into a spoiler list. A name appearing in a community wiki, fan cast or trailer background is not enough to define that person’s role. The safest first-party character sources are the publisher page, official story videos and in-game material.
Why characters can disappear from a run
Developers have explained that killing a character can remove hours of content created for them. Timed inaction can also close opportunities. This makes the cast part of the gameplay system: information, alliances and quests may depend on who remains alive and reachable, not only on a relationship score.
For a spoiler-light first playthrough, speak to people and investigate before choosing violence. Save before an irreversible confrontation if you want a later comparison, but do not assume one campaign can preserve every character and complete every story.
